ଫଲସ୍‌ଚର୍ଚ୍ଚ ୯।୯:   ଆମେରିକା ତାର ଲଞ୍ଚିଂ କରିବାକୁ ଯାଉଥିବା ସିଗ୍ନସ୍ ସ୍ପେସ୍‌ କ୍ରାଫ୍ଟକୁ ଭାରତର ପ୍ରଥମ ମହିଳା ମହାକାଶଚାରୀ କଳ୍ପନା ଚାୱଲାଙ୍କ ନାମରେ ନାମିତ କରିଛି। ସମସ୍ତ ଭାରତୀୟଙ୍କ ଲାଗି ଏହା ଏକ ସମ୍ମାନ ବୋଲି ଏବେ ବିଚାର କରାଯାଉଛି। ଆମେରିକୀୟ ଏରୋ ସ୍ପେଶ୍ କମ୍ପାନୀ ‘ନର୍ଥରୋପ ଗ୍ରୁମ୍ମାନ’ ତାଙ୍କର ଏହି ଅନ୍ତରୀକ୍ଷ ଯାନକୁ ସେପ୍ଟେମ୍ବର ୨୯ ତାରିଖ ଦିନ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଜାତୀୟ ଅନ୍ତରୀକ୍ଷ କେନ୍ଦ୍ର (ଆଇଏସଏସ୍)କୁ ପ୍ରେରଣ କରିବେ।

କଳ୍ପନା ଚାୱଲା ପ୍ରଥମ ଭାରତୀୟ ମହିଳା ମହକାଶ ବୈଜ୍ଞାନିକ ଯିଏ ଅନ୍ତରୀକ୍ଷକୁ ଯିବାର ସୁଯୋଗ ପାଇଥିଲେ। ୧୬ ଜାନୁୟାରୀ ୨୦୦୩ରେ କଳ୍ପନା ଚାୱଲା ଆମେରିକୀୟ ମହାକାଶଯାନ କଲମ୍ବିଆର ଚାଳକ ଦଳ ସଦସ୍ୟ ଭାବେ ମହାକାଶ ଯାତ୍ରା କରିଥିଲେ। ତେବେ ଫେରିବା ରାସ୍ତାରେ ଦୁର୍ଘଟଣା ଯୋଗୁ କଳ୍ପନାଙ୍କ ସମେତ ତାଙ୍କର ସମସ୍ତ ସହଯାତ୍ରୀଙ୍କ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ ହୋଇଥିଲା।

In 1997, Kalpana Chawla became the first woman of Indian descent to go to space. Today, her legacy lives on in the naming of @NorthropGrumman‘s newest Cygnus spacecraft.

ଆମେରିକୀୟ ଏରୋସ୍ପେସ୍ କମ୍ପାନୀ ନର୍ଥରୋପ ଗ୍ରୁମ୍ମେନ ଏକ ସୂଚନାରେ କହିଛନ୍ତି ଯେ ଭାରତର ପ୍ରଥମ ମହିଳା ଅନ୍ତରୀକ୍ଷ ଯାତ୍ରୀ ଭାବେ କଳ୍ପନା ଚାୱଲା ଇତିହାସର ସ୍ୱର୍ଣ୍ଣିମ ପୃଷ୍ଠା ହୋଇ ରହିଛନ୍ତି। କମ୍ପାନୀ ଅନ୍ତରୀକ୍ଷ ଅଭିଯାନରେ ତାଙ୍କର ଯୋଗଦାନକୁ ଅବିସ୍ମରଣୀୟ କହିଥିବା ବେଳେ ତାଙ୍କ ନାମାନୁସାରେ ସିଗ୍ନସ ସ୍ପେସ୍‌ କ୍ରାଫ୍ଟକୁ ଏସ୍.ଏସ୍. କଳ୍ପନା ଚାୱାଲା ନାମରେ ନାମିତ କରୁଥିବା ଘୋଷଣା କରିଛନ୍ତି।
