Bhubaneswar: Panic continued to grip villages under Cuttack district’s Niali block as one more sheep was killed and two others were injured in the attack of unidentified creature in the area late on Thursday night.

While the administration has failed to find out the killer, poor villagers depending on sheep firming are spending sleepless nights due to the continuous killing of ewes and lambs in the area for the last two months.

On Thursday night, the unidentified animal killed one sheep and injured two others belonging to Antaryami Das of Badabankihati village under the block.

It may be noted that three sheep had been killed in Jamugaradi village on Wednesday night. In protest, locals had blcoked the Phulnakhara-Niali road at Kaliaghai demanding compensation to affected farmers for losing sheep in attack of unidentified animal/animals in the area.

During last two months, a large number of sheep have already been killed in the area. The administration is yet to confirm how the ewes and lambs are being killed. Forest, Nandankan zoo and Similipal sanctuary officials, though have initiated efforts to nab the creature, are yet to succeed in the mission.
