Bhubaneswar: Two students drowned, and another turned critical after slipping into the Brahmani river near Biritala under Chandiposh police station while on a picnic.
The bodies Sadab and Saqlain were recovered and sent for post-mortem. Afzal is now undergoing treatment in a critical condition at Lahunipada Community Health Centre.
The deceased and injured along with around a group of 35 students of Rourkela-based City Commerce Academy, a private coaching centre, had visited the Biritala on the banks of Brahmani river for picnic.
Firstly, Sadab who was taking bath in the river slipped into the water. Wasting no time, Saqlain and Afzal jumped into the water to save Sadab. Unfortunately both swept away by the strong current.
On being informed, Chandiposh police along with rescue teams rushed to the spot immediately and fished out the bodies of Sadab and Saqlain. Afzal was rushed to Lahunipada Community Health Centre (CHC) in critical condition after rescue.
A pall of gloom descended on the locality. Police are investigating into the matter.
