Puri: Puri District and Sessions Judge Ambuja Mohan Das today issued public notice inviting advice and suggestions from general public in form of affidavits on Shree Mandir mismanagement by June 20.
The Supreme Court had sought factual report from Puri District Judge on the problems after hearing a PIL on harassment of devotees and mismanagement in the 12th century shrine by June 30.
Taking serious note of the frequent mismanagement and harassment of devotees by servitors at Jagannath temple, the apex court has asked Puri District Judge to give a report on factual aspects of difficulties faced by visitors, exploitative practices (if any), deficiencies in the temple management (if any) and suggestions to improve the overall functioning of the temple.
The court also asked the temple administration to pay remuneration to servitors and ensure their better financial condition.
Meanwhile, as per the direction of the Supreme Court, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has pasted notice inside the shrine asking servitors not to collect dakhina from devotees.
However, servitors demanded review of the order and alternative livelihood measures for their sustenance.
