Bhubaneswar: To press for their longstanding demands, the All-Orissa Private Bus Owners’ Association (AOPBWA) will resort to bus strike in the State from Wednesday for an indefinite strike.
Around 6,000 private buses will stay off roads across Odisha from tomorrow.
The association is protesting the State Government’s decision to ply nearly 300 new city buses on long routes and enhance its tax collection from bus operators. The private bus owners are demanding that the Government should clearly about the specific routes on which it wants to ply these buses.
The association said that new taxes will be a burden for the bus owners.
The association alleged that though they had handed over a memorandum to the State Transport Department highlighting their demands, nothing tangible has happened as yet forcing them to resort to strike.
In October last year, the association had threatened to launch a strike, but called it off after the Government assured them to address their demands at the earliest.
