Bhubaneswar: One Odia among nine CRPF jawans were killed in Maoists attack in Sukma in Chhattisgarh district today.
Manoranjan Lenka of Rebana Nuagaon in Brahmagiri block in Puri district along with eight other CRPF personnel were martyred when their Mine Protected Vehicle (MPV) blew up in the restive Sukma district of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division.
A pall of gloom descended on Rebana Nuagaon village.
The attack took place in Kistaram when the team of CRPF personnel of the 212 battalion were out on a combing operation on the MPV. The rebels used heavy explosives to blow up the vehicle and had triggered several IEDs, sources said.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the attack.
“Today’s IED blast in Sukma, Chhattisgarh is deeply distressing. I bow to each and every security personnel who attained martyrdom while serving the nation,” tweeted Singh.
“My heartfelt condolences to the families of those personnel who lost their lives in Sukma blast. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured jawans. I spoke to DG @crpfindia regarding the Sukma incident and asked him to leave for Chhattisgarh,” added Singh.
