Odiya Buffet Breakfast – Mangalajjodia a clear WINNER

Last time when I had met Mr Pattnaik in the middle of 2017, he had been toying on the idea of a fine dining restaurant specific to fish and crustaceans. The outlet – Mangalajjodi saw the day light around the mid of 2017. The restaurant is not a Casual Dinning Restaurant – CDR, it is a Fine Dinning Restaurant. After Dalma, Mangalajjodi has been quite a hit and the footfalls are increasing in leaps and bounds. It was somewhere in the beginning of November, a group of tourist from Japan made a visit to the restaurant for hearty Odiya breakfast. The outlet was not in a position to serve any of the Odiya breakfast dishes. After this episode the management toyed over the idea of Odiya Buffet Breakfast. The concept materialised in December 2017.

Initially it is offering buffet breakfast on the weekends, at a price of Rs. 199/ all-inclusive. Hardly any campaign and publicity has been done regarding the Odiya Buffet Breakfast. A chance reference in the social media made me more inquisitive to pay a visit to Mangalajjodi for the experience. Mr Subho Biswas COO and Chef Prasurram Rout welcomed me and I was sure it is going to be the best Odiya culinary experience. Both of them are quite old in the trade. Mr. Biswas is an Alumnus from Siliguri Hotel Management and Chef Prasurram an experienced hand from ‘Oh Calcutta’ fame.

The spread was upto the expectation. The dishes, which are dished out, are the ones, which are favourites among the denizens in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The fritters – bara, piyagi, aloo chop and baigini:, puris & chakuli (crepes) along with the ever popular ghuguni, aloo dum. Along with these spreads, were Idli, Upma with chutney.

Postscript: On the whole the experience was quite fulfilling, with a little more publicity it will go a long way. It is one of the aces from Mr Pattnaik’s sleeve and definitely more culinary experience is on its way in the future.
