Bhubaneswar: It seems that there is let up in incidences of carrying of pregnant women on shoulders to hospitals for delivery due to lack of motorable roads in tribals-dominated districts in Odisha.
Another such incident came to the fore today when a pregnant woman was carried in a sling for eight km from her village Fakir gaon, on the foothills of Niyamgiri hills in Rayagada district, only to reach an auto-rickshaw. The woman, identified as Alame Sikka, reportedly gave birth to a female child on the way. The child died soon after the birth. Alame has been admitted in the Kalyanisinghpur hospital in a critical condition.
Family members were forced to carry the woman, after she felt severe labour pain, in a sling as 108 Ambulance didn’t turn up despite repeated calls, said villagers.
