Bhubaneswar: Employees of the Nilagiri block today resorted to a pen down strike for an indefinite period protesting against block chairperson Janaki Singh who on Monday locked up the gate of the block and also the office chambers of officials.
Nilagiri Block Development Officer (BDO) Manas Ranjan Ray on Monday informed media persons that the employees of the block, including he would observe a pen down strike protesting the ‘ill treatment’ of the block chairperson towards the Government servants.
The BDO had said that it (lock up of the main gate of the block and chambers of officials) was an insult to the employees.
Nilagiri block chairperson Janaki Singh at around 11 am on Monday locked the Nilagiri block office finding absence of officials, including the BDO.
Sources said Singh along with a few others arrived at the block office at around 10.15 am and when they found no officials turned up till 11 am, the former then locked up the office gate.
Justifying her stand, Singh told media persons that, “Government officials should maintain official decorum. They (employees) are regularly coming office late. While people are facing problem in airing their grievances to the officials.”
