Bhubaneswar: Ahead of Bijepur by-election, the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government today decided to implement Bijepur Life Irrigation Canal System with an investment of Rs 1,250 crore.
“Augmentation of irrigation potential has been a longstanding demand of the people of Bargarh district especially the drought prone areas of the district. In this regard we have decided to implement Bijepur Lift Canal System, which would be the first of its kind with underground pipeline based irrigation system,” said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“This project will irrigate a gross command area of about 32,000 hectares, including 25,600 hectares in Kharif and 7,000 hectares in Rabi season,” added the CM.
The project will cost about Rs 1,250 crore.
“The project will pump water from Bargarh Mian canal through an 18 km long underground rising main pipeline, where from irrigation will be provided through underground pipelines based distribution system with outlets for every four hectares of land. The project will be named as Gangadhar Meher Lift Canal System,” the CM added.
