Bhubaneswar: Nachika Linga, the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS) president, who is presently lodged in Koraput Circle Jail, today staged dharna inside the jail demanding speedy trial.
Linga had surrendered before the police in October 2014 following which he was arrested and since then he is languishing in jail.
Linga was wanted in 28 cases. He had a number of warrants pending against him. He was allegedly involved in several criminal cases, including murder, arson and dacoity since November 2009.
The CMAS is also accused of spearheading a violent campaign against the non-tribal landlords of Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon by capturing and tilling their land by force.
On the other hand, the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh has always accused non-tribal landlords of grabbing tribal land with the connivance of corrupt officials and turning tribals into landless farm labourers.
