Chimpanzee population rises to 5 in Nandankanan as ‘Purnima’ gives birth

Bhubaneswar: The number of chimpanzees in Nandankanan Zoological Park increased to five with a female chimpanzee giving birth to a cub this morning, adding to happiness of animal lovers.

According to information, pregnant ‘Purnima’ was under guidance of zoo authorities and veterinary doctors for the last 15 days. The ape had been kept in a special cell and was under observation of two veterinary doctors. Two security men were guarding Purnima.

Finally, Purnima gave birth to a cub this morning and their condition is stated to be fine. With the newcomer, the number of chimpanzees increased to five in the zoo.
