Lawyers’ stir over colleague’s murder today

Bhubaneswar: Lawyers across the State on Tuesday boycotted the court activities across demanding immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder of Puri-based hotelier and lawyer Chandan Behera.

While the Orissa High Court Bar Association decided to boycott the court activities, the All Odisha Lawyers’ Association too has called boycott of court activities across the State on Tuesday too decrying the brutal murder of Chandan Behera who was also a member of the Orissa High Court Bar.

Association vice-president Kali Prasanna Mishra demanded that miscreants be taken into task immediately.

The lawyers in Puri also resorted to three-day cease-work stir in the district protesting the deteriorating law and order and rise in criminal elements in the pilgrim city.

They also demanded immediate transfer of district SP Sarthak Sarangi alleging that he has utterly failed to ensure law and order in the pilgrim city.

They alleged that since his (Sarthak Sarangi) joining, seven-eight murders have been executed in Puri city. But police have failed to make any breakthrough in these cases.
