Bhubaneswar: A discussion on Mahanadi river water dispute with BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh Government began in the Odisha Assembly today.
Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy moved a motion in the Assembly over Mahanadi river water dispute with Chhattisgarh which was approved by the Business Advisory Committee.
Sources said the discussion which began at around noon will continue till 5 pm.
On Tuesday, political parties, including the ruling BJD and Congress, the main opposition force in the State threatened to intensify agitation against the Centre demanding formation of a tribunal to adjudicate the Mahanadi river water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
Leaders of 13 political parties, excluding the BJP staged a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan here to protest against the BJP-ruled Centre’s dilly dallying attitude on the issue of formation of the tribunal.
A demonstration will organised at New Delhi on December 18 to protest against the Centre’s attitude.
