Crime Branch to probe gangster Chhota Rajan’s Odisha ‘link’

Bhubaneswar: A day after Berhampur police arrested four persons, including two computer engineers on charge of illegally operating SIM Boxes and allegedly having links with gangster Chhota Rajan, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch today took over the investigation. An Additional SP is heading the team.

The STF today took over investigation of the case registered at the Gopalpur police station relating to seizure of SIM boxes. Gopalpur police on Saturday arrested T Laxmi Naryan Shroff of Chhtrapur, the king pin, Pradeep Kumar Choudhury of Patapur, the organiser, Suresh Kumar Satapathy of Kharavela Nagar, the SIM supplier and Suresh Kumar Sahu of Berhampur. SIM boxes are used to divert the ISD/STD calls by using fake SIMs.

The four regulated and operated the fake SIMs. Using the SIM box, they demanded rs 2 crore from a real estate businessman in Mumbai.

Crime Branch Special DG BK Shamra said that the arrested accused would be brought on remand for custodial interrogation.

“A team of officers of STF and EOW, including cyber investigators is being deputed to Gopalpur. An additional SP is heading the team. FIR alleges that the illegal telephone exchange was facilitating international calls and had linkages with organized criminal groups,” tweeted Shamra.
