Cop touches Puri deity: DGP awaits report from IG

Bhubaneswar: A day after a police official reportedly touched the idol of goddess Subhadra during the pahandi in Puri, Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh today informed that the action would be taken after getting probe report from IG (Central Range) Soumendra Priyadarshi.

“IG, Central Range has been asked to probe the incident. Action will be taken accordingly after getting a report from him,” said Singh.

On Wednesday evening, a minor chaos erupted following allegations by some priests that a police officer touched the idol of goddess Subhadra during inside the Lord Jagannath temple on the occasion of Niladri Bije.

According to the 2014 Orissa High Court order, only –n-duty servitors are entitled to touch the deities during pahandi.  Sources said an IIC rank police officer touched the idol of goddess Subhadra while the daitapati servitors were taking Her to the sanctum sanctorum in procession.
